“Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion, the Crimean Platform has become a symbol of international collective commitment – to assist Ukraine in liberating its territory,” said Emine Dzhaparova, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ukraine.

During the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform, Emine Dzhaparova, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, stressed that for Ukraine, the occupation of Crimea is not primarily about territory but about freedom – the freedom of several thousand citizens who live in fear of being detained and tortured.

Emine Dzhaparova highlighted the story of a 64-year-old historian, a Crimean Tatar, whose sons were detained by Russia and subjected to unjustly prolonged imprisonments, reverting  KGB methods.

Emine Dzhaparova wants to convey to the world the words of those fighting for Crimea’s freedom: “You, members of parliaments, represent your nations, and we urge you to remember the Ukrainian citizens in Crimea who are unlawfully detained, justifying this by labeling them as terrorists. This assurance would mean people won’t be unjustly thrown behind bars.”

Emine Dzhaparova called for holding Russia accountable for its daily breaches of international law. She emphasized the necessity of establishing a tribunal to condemn Russia’s crimes in Ukraine and the implementation of new sanctions to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Emine Dzhaparova pointed out that financial investments in Ukraine will not only help overcome the current destruction but also further the goals of the Crimean Platform and anyone wishing to exist in a democratic world.
