Bekim Sali: International unity must be reflected in consistent and determined action in support of Ukraine

«We must also continue our joint efforts to ensure accountability, protect civilians and cultural heritage, address the human, environmental and economic consequences of the occupation, and ensure the safe returns of Ukrainian children».

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs of North Macedonia, Bekim Sali, issued a strong statement emphasizing that defending the core principles of international law requires concrete action alongside political diplomacy.

«At a time when the fundamental principles of international law are under grave pressure, our unity must be expressed not only through words, but through consistent and determined action. North Macedonia firmly reaffirms its unwavering support for the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders,» stated Bekim Sali.

Addressing the situation on the Crimean peninsula, he emphasized that the attempted illegal annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol remains a clear violation of the United Nations Charter. Territorial acquisition through the use of force must never be recognized or legitimized.

Mr. Sali reiterated North Macedonia’s full backing for relevant United Nations General Assembly resolutions, demanding the immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of Russian military forces from the entire territory of Ukraine.

Outlining the path toward regional security, Bekim Sali concluded:

«A just and lasting peace can only be achieved in accordance with the UN Charter and with full respect of both Ukraine’s guarantees and territorial integrity. North Macedonia remains committed to coordinate international action and to the principles represented by the International Crimea Platform. Ukraine can continue to count on our solidarity, friendship and steadfast trust.»
