Alexander De Croo, Prime Minister of Belgium, began his speech by recalling how Russia’s attempt to annex Crimea was launched, which was the starting point of Russia’s deception, disrespect for the international order and gross human rights violations that we are still witnessing today.
The Prime Minister also commented on the role of occupied Crimea, which now serves as a detention center for children who were forcibly moved from Kherson regions during its occupation, condemning the widespread and systematic attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine.
Concluding his speech, Alexander De Croo reaffirmed Belgium’s support for President Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula, which includes the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity within internationally recognised borders, and that there can be no sustainable peace without bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Condemning the so-called elections to be held in the occupied territories in September 2022, which have no legitimacy or legal force, the Prime Minister promised that Ukraine could count on Belgium’s military, humanitarian and financial support.
