Black Sea Security is Important for All of Europe, says European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos

During the Third Black Sea Security Conference in Chisinau, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos emphasized the strategic importance of the Black Sea for Europe. She noted that a secure Europe is impossible without a secure Black Sea, as the region is home to EU members, future candidates, and important partners.

According to Marta Kos, Russia’s war against Ukraine has significantly changed the region and forced Europe to adopt a more strategic position aimed at protecting trade, energy flows, and food exports.

“EU enlargement is a strategic investment in security. Integrating Ukraine and Moldova into the EU directly contributes to regional stability, democratic governance, and the ability to withstand future crises,” the European Commissioner stressed.

She also added that the EU’s initiatives to develop alternative energy, transport corridors, and digital infrastructure help increase the resilience and security of the countries in the region.
