Canada is imposing a new package of sanctions against more than 160 entities linked to Russia’s shadow fleet
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced this during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on June 16 on the sidelines of the G7 summit.
The sanctions announced by Canada against the Russian shadow fleet will help strengthen international efforts to counter the circumvention of sanctions and reduce Russia’s financial resources.
This is of direct importance for curbing the militarization of the temporarily occupied Crimea, which Russia continues to use as a military platform to project power in the Black Sea and escalate the military threat in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
