Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Robert Menendez joined the Defending Freedoms Project to defend illegally imprisoned Crimean journalists.

“Proud to join Defending Freedoms Project as an advocate for 14 Crimean reporters unjustly jailed by Putin’s cronies. Committed to amplify their fight for transparency & truth while they remain Kremlin prisoners. Journalism is not a crime,” – Mr. Menendez tweeted.

It should be noted that the “Defending Freedoms Project” was founded by the U.S. House of Representatives Commission on Human Rights and Amnesty International and represents the interests of Vladislav Yesypenko, Nariman Dzhelal, Amet Suleymanov, Iryna Danilovych, Asan Akhtemov, Marlen Asanov, Oleksiy Bessarabov, Osman Arifmemetov, Remzi Bekirov, Ruslan Suleymanov, Rustem Sheikhaliyev, Server Mustafayev, Seyran Saliyev and Timur Ibragimov.
