The Fourth Crimea Platform Summit: Alar Karis, President of Estonia

“Struggling with state terrorism is the most burning issue of our era. Already a century ago, the Soviet authorities, which currently is glorified by the Kremlin, began to deliberately eliminate the Crimean Tatars. As a result, almost fifty percent of the population of that time were deported or killed or starved to death”, Alar Karis, President of Estonia.

Alar Karis, President of Estonia, is convinced that Moscow’s chauvinistic slogan, “Russia is back,” evokes endless horror and nightmares not only for the population of temporarily occupied Crimea but for the entire global community. He believes that European states must put an end to this to ensure not only long-lasting and just peace but also the cessation of ongoing human rights violations and war crimes.

“Crimea is not just a peninsula with beautiful nature and a good climate but a home to millions of Ukrainian citizens who do not want to be occupied and live under Moscow’s rule where people are humiliated and treated as state’s slaves,” noted Estonian President Alar Karis.

He also stated that Estonia strongly condemns Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine and will never recognize the illegal occupation of Crimea or any other Ukrainian region.
