The Fourth Crimea Platform Summit: Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany

“We will remain by Ukraine’s side for as long as it takes so that Ukraine can win this war and win its peace”, — Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany.

Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, emphasized in her speech that Russia’s war against Ukraine began in 2014 with an attempted annexation of the Crimean Peninsula and noted that now in temporarily occupied Crimea, Russian security forces illegally persecute those who oppose the occupation and express pro-Ukrainian stance.

“Temporarily occupied Crimea today is a place where no freedom exists, where owning a document that still bears the Ukrainian trident means you might be forced to apologize on camera, where listening to the song “Chervona Kalyna” in your own home can get you arrested, where owning Ukrainian flag brings you 15 days of detention”, — Annalena Baerbock noted.

The German Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Russia is persecuting Crimean Tatars in show trials and deporting them to prisons in remote Russian regions. This is a severe violation of international law and human rights. Annalena Baerbock emphasized that Germany condemns the occupation of Crimea and will support Ukraine in achieving victory and peace.
