The Fourth Crimea Platform Summit: Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine
“Today’s Russia is a regime that feeds on war, so our only option today is to fight and win. Together”, Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal noted that the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014 disrupted the security architecture of Europe and became an impetus for the escalation of Russian aggression against Ukraine. Already then, the war began, accompanied by atrocious human rights violations and the first human casualties — the deaths of Crimean activist Reshat Ametov, tortured by Russians, and Ukrainian soldier Serhiy Kokurin. The indecisive international response provoked a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, which became the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.
The speaker highlighted the importance of providing international assistance to Ukraine to maintain security in the world and expressed confidence in the victory of Ukrainians, thanks to their allies. Denys Shmyhal emphasized that the international community should now unite its efforts to implement the Peace Formula and increase economic pressure on Russia, and called on international businesses to withdraw from Russia and stop financing the aggressor.
Denys Shmyhal is convinced that the frozen Russian assets should become the main resource for Ukraine’s post-war recovery. Thanks to the assistance of international partners, in particular the G-7 countries, they are already helping to finance Ukraine’s budget deficit, supply the army and restore everything that Russia has destroyed. All these assets should be confiscated to force the aggressor to fully repay the damage caused to Ukraine.
According to the Prime Minister, Crimea can become the center of Ukraine’s post-war recovery, turning into a popular European tourist destination, an important transportation corridor, and an energy, agricultural, and technological center of Ukraine. The restored Crimea should join the EU and NATO along with the rest of Ukraine.
In conclusion, Denys Shmyhal thanked the allies for their military and financial support, which is a contribution to European and global security. Only the unity and determination of the allies in supporting Ukraine will allow us to achieve a just peace and bring the aggressor to justice.
