The Fourth Crimea Platform Summit: Luminița Odobescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania
“Crimea was and is the main part of Ukrainian culture and history,” Luminița Odobescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Luminica Odobescu, stated that Russia was never a friend of Ukraine, it only wanted to control Ukraine and keep its economy and society underdeveloped, denying Ukrainians the right to a European democratic and successful future. “The struggle that Ukraine is waging today against Russian aggression did not begin in 2022, but back in 2014. At that time, Russia and its proxies insisted on several propaganda narratives to justify the illegal attempts to annex Crimea. First, it is alleged that Crimea is somehow not completely part of Ukraine. Secondly, Ukraine allegedly created a danger for the people living in Crimea, and Russia had to protect them. But we all know the fact: Crimea was and is the main part of Ukrainian culture and history”, — Luminița Odobescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania.
“The important thing is that Russia has never cared about the lives of people living in Crimea. These are local tragedies that have been happening in Crimea since 2014. We are talking about political persecution, forced deportation, brainwashing of children,” Luminița Odobescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, mentioned.
She also reminded that Russia’s actions contradict its own legal and political obligations, that Russia legally recognized the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea, in 1994 by signing the Budapest Memorandum, and in 1997 in the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
