The Fourth Crimea Platform Summit: Peter Pellegrini, President of the Slovak Republic

“Respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and the prohibition of the alteration of borders by force are critical principles of international law and the UN Charter.  They are key prerequisites for maintaining peace on a global scale”, — said Peter Pellegrini, President of the Slovak Republic.

President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini emphasized that Slovakia has recently marked the very vivid anniversary of the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and the 80th anniversary of the Slovak uprising and armed resistance against the Nazis. All the painful lessons, their own and from European history, have taught them how determined they must be to defend and respect these principles, as well as International Law. 

“The consequences of the illegal occupation of Crimea and the aggressive war against Ukraine extend far beyond Ukraine and Europe, and Russia’s attack on Ukraine has dealt a heavy blow to the universally accepted principles of international relations. If we do not change anything, the international order will simply cease to exist and turn into chaos”, said Peter Pellegrini, President of the Slovak Republic.

The President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini noted that this is not acceptable for Slovakia. It fully complies with the principles of the UN Charter and common European values, supports Ukraine and its people in their right to defend their country and restore their territorial integrity and sovereignty within internationally recognized borders. Mr. Pellegrini also added that it is their duty to seek any means to stop the suffering of the people in Ukraine, as well as the significant destruction that is taking place during this war and that peaceful solutions must be sought for a just peace in Ukraine on Ukraine’s terms. No one wants peace more than Ukrainians themselves.
