The Fourth Crimea Platform Summit: Simon Harris, Prime Minister of Ireland

Prime Minister of Ireland Simon Harris emphasized that the illegal attempted annexation of Crimea in 2014 by the Russian Federation is a stark reminder of the dangers the world faces when it disregards the rules-based international order, and the international community must stand firm in refusing to recognize the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation.

“30 months into this apparent war, your courageous defense of your country and of our shared commitments of freedom and democracy demonstrate the true essence of what it is to be a member of the European family of nations”, — said Prime Minister of Ireland Simon Harris. 

He emphasized that the violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity cannot go unpunished, and Ireland will continue to work with partners and the international community to ensure that Russia and its leaders are held accountable. It was also mentioned that the Crimea Platform provides an opportunity to demonstrate a collective commitment to stand with Ukraine and ensure that the fundamental values of democracy, justice and freedom, the values that are the foundation of the European Union, are strongly defended and upheld.

“The challenges Ukraine faces are immense, but they are not insurmountable. The collective will of Ukrainian people and the unwavering support of the international community will ensure  that your sovereignty is restored and that such acts of aggression will never be tolerated. Ireland is committed to standing with Ukraine and supporting Ukraine as long as it takes”, — the Irish Prime Minister said.
