“Czech experience says that if you give in to the dictator, then the aggressor will eventually swallow you whole and what’s more, his appetite will only increase”, Mr. Miloš Vystrčil, President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic

“Czech experience says that if you give in to the dictator, then the aggressor will eventually swallow you whole and what’s more, his appetite will only increase”, Mr. Miloš Vystrčil, President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic

Democratic countries have made a huge mistake when they did not react immediately to Russian aggression in 2008 in Georgia and then in particular, in 2014 in Ukraine. When tanks rolled into Ukraine on 24th of February 2022, it was another proof that the dictator Putin continues using the shameful methods of Hitler, and as Miloš Vystrčil notes, Czechs know very well about this. In fact, Putin decided to continue his ruthless methods of expansion, not expecting resilience, but this time he miscalculated – and the world finally woke up. This time, everything is different. “We support Ukraine; they are heroically fighting for themselves, for all of us, and for our freedom values and future. We must not forget that Ukraine is one and must act accordingly: the principle ”one for all and all for one” stands”, Mr. Vystrčil says.

Democratic countries of Europe and beyond are used to having good standards of living and peace – that’s probably why some people are already tired of war and they stop worrying about some distant sufferings of others. Some even feel that it can be solved by giving in to the dictator, but to betray yourself, a huge mistake. If you want to become a dictator’s lackey, the only thing you will achieve is becoming just that – a lackey, a servant, and later, a victim. Let’s not fall into Putin’s trap. If we believe it is possible to compromise with the dictator, we are signing the death warrant not only for a free and independent Ukraine but also for democracy, freedom, and such.

We are directly accountable to the people who have elected us and to do the right thing. The right thing is to defend Ukraine. It is not possible to believe Russian talk about a ceasefire without leaving foreign territory. Ukrainians will be able to leave the battlefield only after having defended their sovereignty and independence, which we must support.
