“If we don’t stand up for freedom and democracy in every part of the world, we won’t be able to advocate for democracy in our own country”.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić noted during his speech that it’s often said that Russian aggression began on the 24th of February, but, in his opinion, it formerly began with the occupation of the Crimea, which is an integral part of Ukraine.
Denis Zvizdić in his speech mentioned the experience of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the country that also faced aggression just 40 years ago. The whole world sees the struggle of Ukraine and Denis Zvizdić is proud of his country’s support. He is certain that the world must condemn every attack by any internationally recognized state everywhere.
Denis Zvizdić shared three messages he found important. The first one is that it’s essential for the international community to continue to provide military, economic, and any other aid to Ukraine. The international community must not allow something similar as in Bosnia and Herzegovina to happen in Ukraine or somewhere else. The second message is about the necessity to establish an international tribunal for the persecution of all war crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine as soon as possible. And the third message is that the world is currently facing a series of global challenges. After World War II happened in the heart of Europe, everyone must be aware that it may happen again.
