The Second International Conference, Crimea Global: Understanding Ukraine through the South, is coming soon!

A kind reminder: On November 21–22, Kyiv will host the Second International Conference, Crimea Global: Understanding Ukraine through the South!

Leading experts and opinion leaders from India, Kenya, Brazil, Sudan, Iraq, Mexico, and other countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America will gather in Kyiv, both online and offline, to discuss contemporary challenges and opportunities for cooperation with Ukraine. The central theme of the discussions will be Crimea as a symbol of Ukraine’s resistance against aggression and Russia’s colonial ambitions. The topic of Crimea will also be explored as a critical component of strengthening international law in the areas of food and energy security and as an example of the global fight against colonialism.

The conference program covers a range of key topics, including expanding economic ties between Ukraine and countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, ensuring food security, and efforts to free unlawfully detained Ukrainian citizens. Dedicated panels will address challenges faced by Indigenous peoples, countering Russian propaganda, addressing Soviet legacies and their decolonization, and promoting the Peace Formula.

In addition to panel discussions, invited experts will participate in a series of side events: meetings with Ukrainian human rights defenders, discussions on Ukraine’s successes in the Black Sea and the restoration of the grain corridor, the environmental impacts of Russian aggression, the protection of children’s rights, and the resilience of women and girls from various countries studying in Ukraine. They will also attend a commemoration event honoring cultural figures who have perished as a result of the war. Participants will visit several regions of Ukraine, meet with families of political prisoners, and witness firsthand the consequences of Russian aggression.

The conference is organized at the initiative of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea/Crimea Platform Office, with co-organizers including the Media Initiative for Human Rights, ZMINA Human Rights Center, and PEN Ukraine, supported by the Centre for Information Resilience.
