Jamala Becomes a Grammy Academy Member

Ukrainian singer Jamala announced on Instagram that she has become a member of the Recording Academy, the organization that presents the Grammy Awards.

Jamala emphasized that this status represents recognition of her professional standing, access to a community that values not only popularity but also quality, and an opportunity to help shape the history of contemporary music.

Ukrainian singer Nadia Dorofieieva has also joined the Grammy Awards voting membership alongside Jamala.

The Recording Academy is a U.S. music organization founded in 1957 as an association of musicians, producers, engineers, and recording professionals. Its members have the right to vote for Grammy Award winners, promote their own initiatives, and influence the rules of the awards.

This is a significant event for the Ukrainian music industry: the membership of Jamala and Nadia Dorofieieva signifies the promotion of Ukrainian voices and narratives on the global stage. “Ukrainian music must be heard — on the most renowned stages, in the most prestigious halls, in conversations that shape the future of the industry,” the singer wrote in her post.

We are proud of our Ukrainian artists and Crimean-born talents, and we congratulate the singers on their well-deserved invitations to join the Recording Academy!
