“Establishing a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, including the occupation of Crimea since 2014, is a necessary step to prosecute international crimes and guarantee non-repetition of them.” – Olha Skrypnyk, Coordinator of the Expert Network of the Crimea Platform.

Olha Skrypnyk, Сoordinator of the Expert Network of the Crimean Platform, during her speech at the Third Summit of the Crimea Platform emphasized on the ongoing aggression and human rights violations by Russia in the occupied Crimea.

Olha Skrypnyk emphasized the tragic consequences of Russian aggression in Crimea, starting with the case of Reshat Ametov, a Crimean Tatar activist who was brutally killed for protesting against the occupation. Since then, Russia has established a repressive system to persecute Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians, suppress their identity, and target the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Skrypnyk proposed several decisive steps to resolve the situation. First, she called for the formation of a joint strategy for the security of the Black and Azov Seas to ensure freedom of navigation and food security.

Another important step is the creation of a special tribunal to prosecute the crime of aggression against Ukraine, including the occupation of Crimea since 2014. This will serve as a means of holding Russia accountable for its actions and preventing the recurrence of similar crimes.

In addition, Ms. Skrypnyk emphasized the importance of including the damages caused by the occupation of Crimea in the compensation mechanism. Providing compensation to victims of international crimes committed by Russia in occupied Crimea is extremely important.
