“Even after so many months, Ukraine, you will not be alone!”

Berbel Bas, President of the Bundestag, German politician, and member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, said at the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform:

“In the war between Russia and Ukraine, we stand unwaveringly on the side of Ukraine and will never forget how Russia has been bringing suffering to Ukrainians with its brutal and illegal armed hostilities for 20 months now. 

Every day, people in Ukraine are dying, families are losing their homes, and children are being adopted into families in Europe.

And we will never forget who is responsible for this war. Russia must immediately end this war and fully liberate all occupied territories of Ukraine.

We are witnessing systematic human rights abuse and violence on the territory of the Crimean peninsula by the Russian Federation, which is a gross violation of international law. We will continue to put pressure on Russia to end its temporary occupation of Crimea and other parts of Ukraine.

In June 2024, Germany will host an international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, which will be organized at the parliamentary level. We support Ukraine with technical equipment and humanitarian aid. Our people travel to Ukraine, and our colleagues will never forget the suffering of Ukrainians. For 20 months now, we have been hosting Ukrainian citizens fleeing the war and will continue to do that.
