For two years, Russia has been illegally detaining the First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelal in prison
Two years ago, on this day, the occupiers illegally detained a Ukrainian citizen, journalist, First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Nariman Dzhelal. The activist was detained the day after participating in the Inaugural Summit of the Crimea Platform in 2021 and was falsely accused of “sabotage” at the gas pipeline near the Perevalne village.
According to the previous “sentence”, Nariman Dzhelal was sentenced to 17 years in prison in a strict regime colony and ordered to pay a “fine”. This year, the occupation court completed the consideration of the appeal against the sentence in the falsified case of Nariman Dzhelal and the Akhtemov brothers. The occupation court left the terms of imprisonment unchanged, but toughened the verdict of the first instance by ordering that the illegally convicted persons be held in prison for the first three years and in a strict regime colony for the following three years. In addition, all defence requests to exclude unfounded evidence were rejected.
This year, Nariman Dzhelal addressed the participants of the third Summit of Crimea Platform in his message and noted that the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity together with Crimea is a matter of international stability and security.
