Hereditary Prince Alois: Supporting the de-occupation of Crimea means defending international law

“Today we have an opportunity to send a strong message of unity and solidarity with Ukraine and to reaffirm our collective commitment to uphold the UN Charter. The international community’s lack of response to Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014 created the conditions for the full-scale invasion of 2022,” — H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois of the Principality of Liechtenstein.

At the Sixth Summit of the International Crimea Platform, Hereditary Prince Alois reaffirmed Liechtenstein’s condemnation of Russia’s temporary occupation of the Crimean Peninsula and its attempted illegal annexation, as well as the occupation of other Ukrainian territories.

Liechtenstein reiterated that it will not recognize attempted illegal annexations in Ukraine or anywhere else. Hereditary Prince Alois stressed that supporting the de-occupation of Crimea goes far beyond Ukraine, as it is also about defending international law and the prohibition on the illegal use of force at the core of the UN Charter.

“In standing up for Crimea we are also making an essential and far-reaching statement to support international law,” — H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois.

He also stressed the importance of putting maximum pressure on the Russian Federation to end its aggression against Ukraine. In this context, he highlighted the agreement between the Council of Europe and Ukraine on the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.

Liechtenstein will continue supporting Ukraine, including displaced Ukrainians in need of protection, and maintain its commitment to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
