Mihai Popșoi reaffirmed Moldova’s principled position on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and non-recognition of attempts to change its borders by force

“We reaffirm our unwavering support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized border, including Crimea”, Mihai Popșoi, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.

At the Sixth Summit of the International Crimea Platform, Mihai Popșoi stressed that international peace and security depend on respect for international law, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, the non-use of force, and the protection of human rights. These principles are fundamental to the UN Charter and the international order.

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has profoundly challenged this order. Ukraine is fighting not only for its sovereignty and territorial integrity but also for the principles that protect every state, large or small, from the use of force and the arbitrary redrawing of borders.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova emphasized that the common objective must be to restore respect for international law, support Ukraine in restoring its territorial integrity, and ensure that such violations are not repeated.

“We will accept no gray zones where sovereignty and security remain uncertain. We choose to be part of Europe where borders are respected, international law matters and issues that are addressed through diplomacy.”

The Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova reaffirmed its condemnation of Russia’s temporary occupation of Crimea and its attempted illegal annexation, as well as the so-called referenda, organized by Russia in the temporarily occupied territories of the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine as part of its attempted illegal annexation of these territories.

“The Republic of Moldova does not and will not recognize any attempted territorial change. Our position is principled and unequivocal. Ukraine’s territorial integrity, internationally recognized borders must be respected.”

Finally, Mihai Popșoi expressed his admiration for the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people and their determination to continue defending their country, freedom, and right to choose their own future.
