Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Maria Malmer-Stenergard, spoke at the Fifth Summit of the Crimea Platform

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Maria Malmer-Stenergard, spoke at the Fifth Summit of the Crimea Platform

“Since Russia shows no interest in peace, as demonstrated by its continuous attacks on civilians, we must keep maximizing our pressure and support for Ukraine and its legitimate pursuit of a just and lasting peace,” Maria Malmer-Stenergard, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden

Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer-Stenergard recalled that eleven years after the occupation of Crimea and almost four years into the full-scale invasion, the international community continues to document numerous violations of international law. These include extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, torture, unlawful deportations and the forcible transfer of children, forced mobilization of Ukrainian citizens into Russia’s armed forces, politically motivated prosecutions, and repression of ethnic and religious groups, in particular the Crimean Tatars.

In conclusion, the Minister for Foreign Affairs called for continued pressure on Russia and steadfast support for Ukraine in its pursuit of a just and lasting peace.
