Illegally sentenced to 15 years, Seiran Saliyev was denied transfer to a colony located closer to his home

Illegally sentenced to 15 years, Crimean Tatar and journalist Seiran Saliyev was denied a transfer to a colony located closer to his home. This was reported by his wife Mumine Saliyeva. Currently, the political prisoner is being held in a penal colony in the Tula region of the Russian Federation, where he has virtually no opportunity to see his family.

The activist appealed to the Federal Penitentiary Service with a request to transfer him to a prison closer to Crimea. In a written refusal, the employees referred to Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: convicts under this article are sent strictly to certain penitentiary institutions.

There are about 100 people in the barracks where Saliyev is being illegally held at the same time. Some prisoners cannot remember his name. The activist suggested calling him “Crimea”.

On September 16, 2020, a Russian court in Rostov-on-Don announced a verdict in the second Bakhchisarai case of Crimean Muslims. The illegally detained were sentenced to terms of 13 to 19 years in prison. Convicted Crimean Tatar Seyran Saliev was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

On March 14, 2021, the Russian Military Court of Appeal dropped one of the charges against Seiran Saliyev, reducing his sentence by one year to 15 years in prison.
