The Occupiers Illegally Transferred Political Prisoner Remzi Bekirov from the Prison in Yeniseisk, Krasnoiarsk Region of the Russian Federation
Citizen journalist and activist Remzi Bekirov, who was illegally sentenced to 19 years in prison by the Russian occupiers for reporting on the persecution and human rights violations against Crimean political prisoners, has been transferred from prison No. 2 in Yeniseisk, Krasnoiarsk region, Russia. This was reported by his wife, Khalida Bekirova.
In a letter to his wife, the political prisoner said that the Russians planned to take him from the prison first to a transit point in Krasnoiarsk, where he could stay for a long time, after which he would probably be transported to an unknown destination. Earlier, the occupiers refused to transfer Remzi Bekirov to a colony closer to his home.
Remzi Bekirov was detained when one of the most massive searches of Crimean Tatars took place in occupied Crimea on March 27, 2019, during which 20 people were detained and illegally charged with alleged “terrorism.” In the following days, five more Crimean Tatars were detained and charged in the so-called “Crimean Muslim case.” Remzi Bekirov was among them.
