Political prisoner Amet Suleimanov’s health condition worsened
Amet Suleimanov, a Crimean Tatar activist and journalist with Crimean Solidarity, has had his health deteriorate while in prison in Russia’s Vladimir region. This was reported by his wife, Lilia Liumanova. She said that it was a difficult task to get to the colony to visit her husband, but together with the children they managed to find a way. The trip to the Russian colony took three days one way.
Amet’s wife also reported that his health continues to worsen: “He has lost 10 kilograms. But Amet says he is trying to take care of himself as much as he can.”
The illegally imprisoned man hinted to his wife about the harsh conditions of detention: “Amet began to tell us in detail what had been happening to him all this year. From what he said, it became clear why he became ill.”
Amet Suleimanov was detained by the occupation administration in March 2020 and later sentenced to 12 years in prison, accused of alleged “terrorism”. The man suffers from arterial and mitral heart failure. Throughout the trial, the defense tried to convey to the Russian court that such a measure of restraint could not be applied to the political prisoner due to his health condition. But even this did not become an obvious reason for the occupiers to change their illegal decision.
