Political prisoner Rustem Sheikhaliyev was denied hospitalization despite complaints of health and bleeding

Prison doctors refused to hospitalize illegally imprisoned civilian journalist Rustem Sheikhaliyev after an examination. On January 16, he planned to participate in a hearing to consider his appeal against the sentence via a video conference call from SIZO No. 3 in Novocherkassk. However, during the meeting, he began to bleed heavily from the nose. He was taken to the medical unit, but then returned to his cell. The political prisoner told his lawyer about this at the next court hearing.

The doctor, who was called to Sheikhaliyev at the last hearing, recorded high blood pressure during a nosebleed. He was given an injection, but was refused hospitalization. He was not given the opportunity to be examined and prescribed the necessary treatment protocol.

Earlier, Rustem Sheikhaliyev asked the prison doctors to make an electrocardiogram for him – he suspects that he has heart failure.

As a reminder, on November 24, 2022, the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don found Rustem Sheikhaliyev, illegally imprisoned in the so-called “Crimean Muslims case”, guilty and illegally sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
