“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine undermines the international order.” – Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan

In a speech delivered at the Third Summit of the Crimea Platform, Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida expressed his deep support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s aggression. He commended President Zelenskyy’s strong leadership and acknowledged the challenges Ukraine continues to endure.

During his visit to Kyiv and Bucha earlier this year, Prime Minister Kishida witnessed the tragic consequences of the conflict firsthand, further solidifying his belief that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is an outrageous act that undermines the foundations of the international order.

Prime Minister Kishida reaffirmed Japan’s consistent support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including Crimea. He emphasized that Japan will continue to collaborate closely with the international community, particularly the G7, to impose strict sanctions on Russia while providing robust support for Ukraine.

As the Chair of the G7, Prime Minister Kishida hosted the G7 Hiroshima Summit, where the participating countries, along with the President of Ukraine, unanimously condemned any unilateral attempts to change the status quo through force. They emphasized the importance of upholding a free and open international order based on the rule of law.

Prime Minister Kishida highlighted the message sent from Hiroshima, with its historical significance, that the G7 will never accept Russia’s nuclear threats or the use of nuclear weapons. Japan firmly stands against such actions.

In line with its commitment, Japan will steadily implement various assistance programs totaling 7.6 billion U.S. dollars, based on the needs on the ground in Ukraine. Drawing upon Japan’s experience and expertise in post-war reconstruction and disaster recovery, the aid will be tailored to meet Ukraine’s specific requirements.

Prime Minister Kishida concluded his speech by assuring the people of Ukraine that Japan will stand by their side in the pursuit of peace on their beautiful land.
