“Siezing parts of a country’s territory to an aggressor does not bring peace, it only increases the former’s appetite” – Zuzana Čaputová, the President of Slovakia

“We represent the different countries with diverse priorities and interests. But we all share the same ambition – to end Russia’s illegal aggressive war against Ukraine, which is already causing enormous suffering and which has a global impact” –  Zuzana Čaputová, President of Slovakia, during the Third Crimean Platform Summit.

The President highlighted that solutions to the war which Russia started against Ukraine must align with the basic principles of the UN charter, including sovereign integrity and internationally recognized borders. She added that it also applies to Crimea, where the local population remains under Russia’s illegal temporary occupation since 2014.

“When Moscow started its war against Ukraine, the reaction from the international community was slow and timid. Some thought that with de-facto control of parts of Ukraine, Russia can be a beast. On February 24, 2022, the whole world could see that such assumption was wrong,” – the President stated. She also expressed support toward President Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula and that her country stands ready to contribute to all efforts that will bring just peace, especially in the area of nuclear safety, demining, restoration of justice, or addressing the environmental damage caused by the war.
