Suleiman Mamutov Re-Elected as Expert to the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues
Today, Ukraine received important international recognition — Suleiman Mamutov was re-elected as an expert to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. His reappointment is the result of coordinated efforts by Ukrainian institutions and the active engagement of civil society in advancing the rights of Indigenous Peoples at the international level.
The re-election of a Crimean Tatar representative to this key UN advisory body sends a strong signal of support for Ukraine in protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples, particularly in the context of Russian aggression and the temporary occupation of part of its territory. It also amplifies the voice of the Crimean Tatar people globally, providing additional tools for advancing the issue of Crimea on international platforms.
Suleiman Mamutov expressed his gratitude for the support of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN, the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as his family, friends, and colleagues.
“I am honoured to have been re-elected to the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. I’m grateful to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Member States for their trust and thankful to my family, friends, and colleagues for their continued support. Dedicated to standing with Indigenous Peoples in my region and worldwide in our shared quest for justice,” stated Suleiman Mamutov.
This week, Ukraine has just been elected to four UN bodies: CND, UNAIDS, UNPFII, and the UNICEF Executive Board. This marks a significant step in strengthening Ukraine’s international standing and reaffirms its active role within the UN system.
Ukraine is grateful to the UN Member States for their support and reaffirms its commitment to the principles of multilateralism and the UN Charter.
