Michal Scherba, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, focused on unity and solidarity with Ukraine, noting not only the fact of fighting for survival, but also for common values and security. For Mr. Shcherba, the concept of unity means ensuring the victory of democracy and international order over imperialism and autocracy.
The parliamentarian demanded the prosecution of the guilty and supported the creation of a special tribunal to expose Russia’s crimes. He called for continued pressure on Russia through sanctions and stressed the importance of not succumbing to war fatigue. “The Russian state under the current regime is a terrorist state. We condemn Russia’s crimes, crimes against humanity and recorded acts of genocide, including the deportation of Ukrainian children,” said Michal Scherba, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
The Speaker supported President Zelenskyi’s Peace Formula and expressed confidence that the time has come to start discussions on financing the reconstruction of Ukraine. He invited all participants to participate in the development of a legal framework for legal access to frozen Russian assets and called on them to support Ukraine on its way to NATO membership. In his opinion, the security system in Europe will not fully exist without Ukraine in NATO.
