“This summit, along with the Crimea Platform, is a vital opportunity for us to exchange ideas on how we can use our positions in our parliaments to support Ukraine and Crimea. We can and must do that”, Dame Rosie Winterton, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Dame Rosie Winterton referred to the words of the Speaker of the House of Commons оf the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Lindsay Hoyle at the First Parliamentary Summit in 2022, when Sir Lindsay Hoyle condemned Russia’s aggression and declared his support for Ukraine, the brave Ukrainian people, and the liberation of Crimea. Dame Rosie Winterton stated that it remains as the unequivocal position of the UK Parliament and the UK government today.

Dame Rosie Winterton reminded that Russia’s violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty began exactly with the attempt of annexation of Crimea in 2014, which was followed by repression and human rights violations. The UK Parliament has repeatedly stated its support for Ukraine and the International Crimea Platform as a means to strengthen the global response and engagement in Crimea. “Our parliaments have a crucial role to play in keeping Ukraine and Crimea at the centre of our concerns, and we as speakers, deputy speakers, and influential parliamentarians have a key role in making that happen”, Dame Rosie Winterton concluded.
