During the fourth Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform, delegations from Austria, Lithuania, Moldova, and Norway delivered speeches
“Austria will continue to stand steadfast in its support for Ukraine. As a military-neutral country, we take our role very seriously by upholding key principles of international law and by delivering humanitarian and financial assistance, as well as non-military equipment,” Peter Haubner, Second President of the National Council of Austria.
Peter Haubner emphasized that the ongoing war continues to shake the very foundation of international order. He pointed out that in 2014, the international community failed to act adequately in response to Russia’s occupation of Crimea through infiltration tactics and a sham referendum. Since then, Russia has continued to claim regions that rightfully belong to Ukraine. He emphasized the crucial role of parliaments in securing political support and reaffirmed that Crimea’s culture and people are an integral part of Ukraine, despite the aggressor’s misinformation.
“It is essential to make clear who is aggressive in this war and not to recognize any occupation and annexation of any territory of Ukraine by Russia. The Lithuanian Parliament approved a resolution declaring non-recognition of the annexation of Ukraine’s territory, neither de jure nor de facto,” Juozas Olekas, Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania.
Juozas Olekas mentioned that Lithuania has supported Ukraine with €1.6 billion and will continue to maintain at least 0.25% of GDP annually for this cause. He highlighted that Lithuania recognizes the ongoing threat from Russia and must act faster to address these challenges. The Speaker of the Seimas noted that Lithuania continues to support Ukraine through various bilateral initiatives and projects, including initiatives to support veterans, school renovations, shelter construction, and renewable energy development.
“We know that Ukraine’s victory is essential for the peace and security of our entire region. The message of Moldova is clear and consistent — we stand with Ukraine. We are on the side of justice and responsibility,” Igor Grosu, President of Parliament of Moldova.
Igor Grosu expressed profound gratitude to the Ukrainian people for their unwavering courage in defending their independence and freedom. The President of the Parliament of Moldova noted that, having recently held elections amid a disinformation campaign by Russia, his country reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, European integration, and resistance to external pressures. He emphasized Moldova’s solidarity with Ukraine, understanding the stakes of living next to a country under attack, and vowed to continue supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty until Crimea is de-occupied and peace is restored.
“We must keep Ukraine at the top of the agenda every day in every parliament in every government. Norway stands firmly with Ukraine. This year, our support for Ukraine amounts to €7.2 billion, of which around 85% is military aid. We will keep the same level of support in 2026,” Masud Gharahkhani, President of the Storting of Norway.
Masud Gharahkhani emphasized that it has been over 11 years since Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, and the war continues. The President of the Storting of Norway stressed that any peace efforts must involve Ukraine and lead to a just, lasting peace, not one that rewards the aggressor. With Russia’s attacks increasing as winter approaches, he noted the immense suffering in Ukraine. Masud Gharahkhani concluded by stating that Norway will not rest until Ukraine remains sovereign and secure, urging the world to ensure Ukraine is never left alone, especially this winter.
