The performance The Colony is a unique project that integrates multiple art forms, including dance, theater, poetry, multimedia, painting, and music. The production highlights the struggle of the Crimean Tatars for freedom and addresses the plight of political prisoners illegally detained in Russian prisons. Through this performance, the artist appeals to the international community, calling for the liberation of Crimea from Russian occupation. The work addresses issues of both mental and physical imprisonment, the destruction of cultural heritage, deported generations, and the fight for the rights of Indigenous peoples.

“We believe that art is a form of resistance,” the artist states.

This project tells the story of a colonized individual striving for freedom from violence and assimilation. In her work, Aziza Eskender focuses on the loss of land, language, historical heritage and the unlawful transportation of children and adults from occupied territories to Russia.
