A Crimean Tatar Shield Exhibition to Open in Vilnius

A Crimean Tatar Shield Exhibition to Open in Vilnius

From October 9, 2024, to April 27, 2025, Vilnius, Lithuania, will host a unique project titled “Qalqan / Shield” by Crimean Tatar ceramic artist Rustem Skybin. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition at the Bastion of the Vilnius Defense Wall during the museum’s working hours.

As a reminder, the “Qalqan / Shield” project features ceramic panels in the shape of protective shields, adorned with plant motifs as symbols of revival, resistance to injustice, preservation, and the continuation of life. To create this artistic image, Rustem Skybin chose one of the elements of martial arts—the military shield, symbolizing protection of both the Warrior and the State of Ukraine in a broader sense.

The exhibition will allow visitors to delve deeper into the traditions and contemporary culture of the Crimean Tatar people. The “Qalqan / Shield” project aims not only to showcase art but also to spark a dialogue about the importance of protecting cultural heritage in the face of modern challenges.

We invite everyone to join this important cultural event and honor the art and history of the Crimean Tatar people.
