UKRAINIAN STARTUP RESPEECHER HAS INITIATED A PROJECT TO POPULARIZE THE CRIMEAN TATAR LANGUAGE

The Ukrainian startup Respeecher has initiated an extremely important project to promote the Crimean Tatar language in order to increase its use in many usual services: phone assistants, chatbots, and automatic translators. The team is training a neural network to identify the Crimean Tatar language and collecting 1,000 votes from native speakers.

For high-quality analysis, the initiators of this project need 1,000 hours of Crimean Tatar language recordings. Native speakers can send audio recordings even at home. You can also record audio directly at the Respeecher studio if you live in Kyiv.

Native speakers of the Crimean Tatar language who wish to join the initiative can send audio recordings of their language through this form. It is very important that the audio has a minimum of background sounds, such as air conditioning, refrigerator or other voices. It is recommended that the audio should be between 30 minutes and an hour long.

As the AI model analyses more different accents and voice tones, the more accurate the speech recognition result will be.

The best audio recordings for analysis are those of the Crimean Tatar literary language recorded in a quiet room with minimal background noise. We recommend recording with a good microphone, but even audio recordings made on an iPhone or podcasts are acceptable.

The startup assures that no data of specific individuals will be stored and the team will never reproduce other people’s voices without the permission of the speaker, so all the data sent will be used only for the purpose of training the neural network and for analysing the Crimean Tatar language in general. The startup has previously worked with major Hollywood studios in compliance with these ethical standards of cooperation.
