United Kingdom Imposes New Package of Sanctions on Individuals and Entities Connected to Crimea
On 11 May, the United Kingdom introduced a new package of sanctions against individuals and entities linked to temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as to the Russian Federation’s programmes for the deportation, indoctrination, and militarisation of Ukrainian children.
Sanctions were imposed on children’s camps and sanatoria on the occupied peninsula which, according to the British government, have been involved in the forced deportation and “re-education” of Ukrainian children. These include the Crimean children’s sanatorium “Zdravnitsa”, the “Alye Parusa” children’s centre, the “Zhemchuzhyna”, “Art-Kvest”, “Solnechnaya Tavrika”, “Selet — Ak Bars”, and “Rossiya” camps, as well as the “Center for development and support of tourism business”, the A. V. Kazakevych camp, and the “Yolochka” orphanage.
Sanctions also apply to other entities in Yevpatoriia, Yalta, Saky, Simferopol, Sevastopol, and Pishchane, which, according to London’s assessment, have facilitated the implementation of Russian policies regarding Ukrainian children in the occupied territories.
Furthermore, the sanctions list includes Sevastopol State University, the Engineering Centre of Sevastopol State University, Psychiatric Hospital No. 5, Iryna Kravchenko, Mikhail Druzhinin, Olga Druzhinina, and the media platform GOVORIT. According to the British authorities, the GOVORIT platform is involved in promoting policies that destabilise Ukraine and undermine its territorial integrity.
The British government considers Iryna Kravchenko to be involved in the Russian programme of forced deportation and “re-education” of Ukrainian children. Mikhail Druzhinin, a veteran of the Russian Armed Forces, was included in the sanctions list for activities undermining the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. Olga Druzhinina is also accused of being involved in actions that destabilise Ukraine and threaten its sovereignty.
A statement from the British government emphasises that Russia uses the infrastructure of temporarily occupied Crimea as one of the key sites for the illegal transfer of Ukrainian children, their Russification, and militarisation.
