A Documentary About the Crimean Tatar People Will Be Produced in Indonesia
Preparations have begun in Indonesia to produce a documentary film dedicated to the history, culture, and fight for the rights of the Crimean Tatar people in Ukraine. The project aims to draw international attention to the pressing challenges faced by the Crimean Tatars, particularly under the conditions of the occupation of the peninsula. Refat Chubarov, Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, stated this.
During his visit to Indonesia, Refat Chubarov gave an interview to human rights advocate Irma Hutabarat and journalist Tamalia Alisjahbana. This discussion marked the beginning of the project work. The film’s production team plans to address both the historical aspects and contemporary issues of the Crimean Tatar people, including the consequences of occupation, human rights violations, and repression in temporarily occupied Crimea.
“The project aims to attract the attention of civil society, policymakers, and Muslim communities to the issues faced by the Crimean Tatar people, emphasizing their steadfast struggle for their rights and freedoms,” commented Refat Chubarov, Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.
Representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in Indonesia noted on their social media platforms that the project also aims to increase international awareness of the Crimean Tatar identity and their commitment to Ukrainian values. The film will serve as a reminder of the importance of solidarity in the struggle for the rights of Indigenous peoples, freedom, and justice.
