Annual Online Dictation in the Crimean Tatar Language to Commemorate International Mother Language Day
On February 21, 2025, the civic initiative “Nefes” will hold the seventh annual online dictation in the Crimean Tatar language, dedicated to International Mother Language Day. This event aims to support and promote the Crimean Tatar language, which is an integral part of Ukraine’s Indigenous people’s cultural and national identity.
Maie Safet, a translator, editor, and instructor of the Crimean Tatar language, has authored this year’s dictation text. Mamurie Chabanova, a philologist and translator, will read it.
The dictation will be broadcast on February 21 at 19:00 Kyiv time on Nefes’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, as well as on the independent public media platform Cemaat media.
Organizers encourage all interested individuals to participate in the dictation and test their knowledge of the Crimean Tatar language. To join, participants must listen to the broadcast, write down the text, and send a photo or scanned copy of their work to [email protected] by February 22 at 20:00 Kyiv time. The submission must include the participant’s name, country, city, and a link to their Facebook or Instagram account.
This year’s dictation is organized with the support of Cemaat Media, the educational and research center Crimean Studies at NaUKMA, and the Institute for the Development of the Crimean Tatar Language.
Join the annual dictation and support the preservation and development of the Crimean Tatar language!
