Volodymyr Zelenskyy appoints Nariman Dzhelyal as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Türkiye
On 14 May 2025, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Decree No. 305/2025, appointing Nariman Enverovych Dzhelyalov as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Türkiye.
Nariman Dzhelyal was illegally imprisoned by the Russian Federation and sentenced to 17 years in prison in 2021, shortly after returning to Crimea from Kyiv, where he had spoken at the inaugural Crimea Platform Summit.
On 28 June 2024, Ukraine secured the release of ten Ukrainian civilian hostages from Russian prisons — among them was former Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Nariman Dzhelyal.
His appointment marks an important step in strengthening diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Türkiye.
