“We have a common responsibility to fight autocratic tendencies and ground threats to human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. Those core values are the bedrocks of our continuous freedom, peace, prosperity, and security in Europe, and they should be preserved. The cost may be high but living in peace and freedom is worth it”, Nataša Sukič, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia

Nataša Sukič began her speech by recalling that the gravest violation of international law is an attack on a sovereign state, which cannot be justified, and this is why it is paramount to keep supporting Ukraine not only because of solidarity but also to protect democratic security and stability in Europe.

She addressed the fact that Russia’s aggression magnifies security risks as it results in thousands of victims being injured and kidnapped and millions being displaced or in desperate need of humanitarian aid. She urged to continue to strongly condemn the numerous atrocities and violations of international law committed by Russia in Ukraine.

The speaker reassured that Slovenia’s support for Ukraine will continue, as Slovenia was one of the countries that immediately joined others in condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
