“We stand by Ukraine in becoming a full-fledged EU and NATO member” – Nicolae – Ionel Ciucā, President of the Senate of Romania.

During the plenary session of the Second Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform Nicolae – Ionel Ciucā, President of the Senate of Romania expressed Romania’s adherence to the current rule-based world order. He reminded that his country and Ukraine organized in Bucharest the first Black Sea Security Conference, thus drawing international attention to the security risks in the Black Sea region.

As the President of the Senate stated, Romania continues to play an important role in assisting Ukrainian people fleeing the war and facilitating the transit of grains: “Until now, more than half of all grain was exported through Romania on its way to consumers worldwide”. Mr. Ciucā expressed deep concern about the repetitive attacks in the immediate proximity of the Romanian border. He also noted that the large presence at the Summit proves the strength of unity and determination in supporting Ukraine and the falsity of Russia’s counting on diminishing support for Ukraine.

“My country welcomes reinforcements of NATO’s forward presence on the Eastern flank, following the Madrid and Vilnius Summits”, said the President of the Senate. He expressed the intention of Romania to strengthen bilateral relations with Ukraine and recalled that the two presidents had recently decided during their meeting in Bucharest to start the process of raising relations to the level of a strategic partnership. “We will continue to stand with you in your legitimate fight to liberate Crimea and all the other illegally occupied territories”, Mr Ciucā concluded.
