The Fourth Crimea Platform Summit: Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States

“We have also stated that this invasion poses a threat to the peace and security of the entire planet, including the Western Hemisphere. We have witnessed Russia forming alliances with autocratic regimes in the Americas,” said Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States.

Secretary General Almagro reiterated the inadmissibility of the “law of the strong,” noting that for many states, this is a matter of survival. He emphasized the critical importance of global solidarity in opposing such actions.

“The so-called referendums and elections aimed at normalizing the occupation fall into the same category–they cannot produce any legal effect and only contribute to the violation of human rights,” Almagro added.

The Secretary General also highlighted that Russian aggression against Ukraine not only violates international law but also risks causing global starvation.
