The Fourth Crimea Platform Summit: Marija Pejčinović-Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe

“This year marked the 10th anniversary of the occupation of Crimea. The European Court of Human Rights affirms that Russia has committed and is systematically committing human rights violations, including illegal detention, oppression of the Ukrainian language, culture, and identity in Crimea”, Marija Pejčinović-Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, said. 

Marija Pejčinović-Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, emphasized that the occupation includes suffering and fear, and the large-scale war that began in 2022 also highlighted and reinforced the scale of Russia’s crimes, replicating them in other parts of Ukraine. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović-Burić, added that they are working, especially through the tribunal, to prosecute war crimes, and all this is done to achieve a lasting peace based on the UN Charter and international law.
