First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova during today’s meeting with Vice President of the Bundestag Katrin Göring-Eckardt discussed ways to strengthen all tracks of the Crimea Platform.
In December 2022, Ms. Göring-Eckardt mentored the First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Nariman Dzhelal, who was illegally imprisoned by the Russian Federation to 17 years in a maximum security colony for his participation in the founding summit of the Crimea Platform on August 23, 2021.
This is an important public step that should facilitate Nariman’s release. During the meeting, Emina Dzhaparova and Katrin Göring-Eckardt discussed the further implementation of mentoring of other Ukrainian political prisoners in order to facilitate their speedy release from prison.
Earlier, the Vice-President of the Bundestag told the story of Nariman Dzhelal to her followers on Twitter. “Nariman Dzhelal is my colleague. He is the First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis, the representative body of the Crimean Tatar people. Despite the lack of evidence, he was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Leviz’s wife with four small children is waiting for him.”
The Vice President also noted that Russia violate human rights and all international rights and insisted that Dzhelal should be immediately released from illegal detention.
