The Permanent Representative/Head of the Office of the Crimea Platform Tamila Tasheva takes part in the round table organized by the Office of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe on the human rights situation in the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula

The Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea/Head of the Office of the Crimea Platform Tamila Tasheva spoke at the opening of the round table organized by the Office of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe on the topic “Human rights situation in the occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine – Developments in the aftermath of the Russian armed aggression”, which will be held today in Strasbourg, France.

The purpose of the roundtable is to obtain information for the preparation of the next report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maria Pejčinović Burić on the situation in the occupied Crimean peninsula, which is planned to be put to the vote of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in summer.

Earlier, on June 16, 2022, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, on the basis of the previous report of the Secretary General entitled “Situation of human rights in the occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol”, condemned the violation of the rights of ethnic Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars and other residents of the peninsula by the occupation administrations, and expressed concern that the Russian Federation continues to deny unhindered access to Crimea for the Commissioner for Human Rights and representatives of other human rights organizations.

The round table was also joined by representatives of Ukrainian non-governmental human rights organizations and the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine.

“This round table can become a very important beginning for a new report on the situation in the occupied Crimean peninsula. Of course, I must mention and thank for a number of resolutions that PACE has adopted recently. Actually, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted the Resolution on the recognition of the current Russian regime as a terrorist one. It was a very important vote, a very important Resolution for the Ukrainian state, which has been at war for eight years already”, – said Tamila Tasheva, Permanent Representative/Head of the Crimea Platform Office, speaking at the opening of the round table.

Tamila Tasheva also thanked the international partners for their active interest in the activities of the Crimea Platform. “In addition, we are especially grateful to the representatives of the Council of Europe for their participation in the Crimea Platform Summits both last year and this year.”

In addition to Tamila Tasheva, Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe and Dunja Mijatović, Сouncil of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights delivered video addresses at the opening of the round table. Ambassador Ragnhildur Arnljótsdóttir, Permanent Representative of Iceland, Chairperson of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, personally joined the discussion. The event was moderated by Mr Christos Giakoumopoulos, Council of Europe Director General for Human Rights and Rule of Law.
